How This Calculator Works
Nisab is the minimum wealth threshold for zakat obligation, equivalent to 85 grams of gold. Gold prices change daily, so the nisab in rupiah also changes.
Haul is ownership for 1 year (12 Hijri or Gregorian months). Only assets you've owned for ≥1 year are subject to zakat.
Calculation method: If your TOTAL wealth ≥ nisab, then ALL wealth is subject to 2.5% zakat. Not just the amount above nisab — the entire total.
Conventional deposits: Scholars differ on this. The majority opinion (including BAZNAS RI): principal + interest are both subject to zakat. Some scholars' opinion: only the principal, not the interest (as it's riba). This calculator shows both calculations.
Zakat basis per asset:
- Stocks & Mutual Funds: Current market value (NAV)
- Sharia Deposits: Principal + profit sharing
- Gold: Weight (grams) × gold price per gram
- Government Bonds: Face value + coupons received
- Savings: Balance held for ≥1 year

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the nisab for investment zakat?
Nisab is the minimum threshold of wealth that obligates zakat, equivalent to 85 grams of gold. Since gold prices change daily, the nisab in currency also changes.
If your total investment assets meet or exceed the nisab and have been held for 1 year (haul), you must pay 2.5% zakat on all qualifying assets — not just the amount above nisab, but the entire total.

How do I calculate zakat on stocks?
Stock zakat is calculated on the current market value. If you've held stocks for at least 1 year and your total assets meet the nisab, zakat due is 2.5% of the current stock value.
This follows BAZNAS RI guidelines and the Kuwait International Zakat Conference (1404H), which state zakat on stocks applies to market value, not just dividends or capital gains.

Is zakat required on conventional deposits?
Scholars differ on conventional deposits:
- Majority view (including BAZNAS RI): Both principal and interest are subject to 2.5% zakat. Rationale: the wealth is in your possession, so it's subject to zakat regardless of its source.
- Alternative view: Only the principal is subject to zakat, as interest is considered riba and should be separated and given as sadaqah, not zakat.
This calculator shows both calculations. For certainty on your obligation, consult a scholar or BAZNAS in your area.

When should I pay investment zakat?
Investment zakat is due after haul — holding assets for at least 1 year (12 lunar or solar months). You can count from the date you first purchased the investment asset.
If your total assets meet the nisab (85 grams of gold) at year-end, 2.5% zakat must be paid — even if the asset values fluctuated during the year. What matters is that the value at both the start and end of the haul period is ≥ nisab.
